Embrace the chaos and enjoy the ride…

What the heck does that mean?

Life is full of chaos… weather good or bad.

Examples of bad chaos could be: a traffic jam caused by a horrible car accident, a riot in a large city, or a natural disaster like a hurricane.

Examples of good chaos could be: raising two boys under 6 years old, deciding to start an upstart business, or choosing to write a blog and coming up with what to write about.

How do you enjoy the ride of chaos?

I can’t tell you how to live your life, but I can let you know what I do…

I drink a lot of alcohol… (Mom, I’m kidding)

You have to pick your battles….Control what you can control.

There are times with the two knuckleheads (that my wife and I are trying our darndest to raise) where we have to pick our battles and control what we can.

They’re boys. They are going to have a No Holds Bard wrestling matches in our living room. They’re going to annoy the ever living crap out of us. But we have to control what we can control.

They are not going to be little kids for long. Hell, Owen is heading to Kindergarten next year.

It won’t be long and I will be begging for those No Holds Bard wrestling matches…(I may have to wrestle the wife)

You’re going to have to come to grips with the fact that chaos is all around us… Everyday is just as unpredictable as the next.

When you are stuck in traffic tomorrow on your way to work that you are already late for, because you have to be at work at 8:00am and you left your house at 7:59… Suck it up buttercup… You might as well take that time to do something productive. Jam out to your Spotify Playlist… Listen to the Joe Rogan Experience (its a 3hr podcast).

When you’re invited to a family gathering with extended family that you only see once a year or two… Take two shots of your favorite spirit… Once those go down smooth, take a few mini bottles with you and enjoy the time you have… The time you have with them isn’t that long in the grand scheme of things. A plus: You’re going to have stories to tell your grandkids one day.

When your kids want to play WWE in your living room… Show them how it is done and lay the smackdown on their candy asses! IF YA SMEEEELLLLLL WHAT THE ROCK…IS…COOKING!

At the end of the day…

Just embrace the chaos and enjoy the ride…

I’m a 37 year-old dad, proud husband, and on-time tick bite survivor. I’ve got two high-energy boys who think sleep is optional and gravity is just a suggestion. If there’s one thing fatherhood has taught me, it’s this: Emprace the chaos, buckle up, and enjoy the wild, snack-crumb-covered ride.
