Living in a house with a 5 year old and a 2 year old means we do our fair share of watching TV shows and movies with the kids.

Before some of you Karen’s lose your shit because we let our kids watch so much TV… We do shut the TV off and spend time together just playing. So, get off of your high horse and go finish your kale salad.

Now that we have that out of the way…

I’ve got to say, some of the shows and movies the boys love to watch are pretty damn entertaining. So much so, that I may or may not watch them even when they are not around.

Here’s my Top 10 TV Shows/Movies my kids watch…

Note- This top 10 was not easy… So lets treat this like a Planet Fitness… A Judgement Free Zone

.

10. Blues Clues

This is not the same Blues Clues that I grew up watching. Steve is gone and Blues new owner is now a guy named Josh. Characters are the same… Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper, Mailbox, and of course Blue. The songs however, have changed. I understand that shows need to evolve to reach the newer audience, but I was a little confused when the song “We Just Got a Letter” sounds completely different. I’m not going to play Mr. Grumpy Old Man here. It is still a good show. And the boys love it.

9. Paw Patrol

Marshall, Chase, Rubble, Skye, Rocky, and Zuma. A team of puppy heroes and their (I think owner) Ryder keep the town safe from Mayor Humdinger. The TV show alone is fine… But that Paw Patrol Movie!! It’s up their with any action movie.

8. Frozen

Its a classic. Don’t really watch it a lot, but it is Hudson’s favorite. I will, without any hesitation belt out “Let It Go” during that particular scene.

7. SpongeBob SquarePants

I grew up on SpongeBob. It is also a classic and one that doesn’t seem to age at all. I find the show just as entertaining now as I did back then. I think I enjoy it more now because I get the underlying adult humor that is in the show. I also find myself relating more with Squidward than I ever thought possible.

6. Moana

The Rock makes this movie! I know the rap. I can do it on the spot.

5. Encanto

Great movie. A dysfunctional family living in a magic house. The only down side of this movie is listening to the kids sing “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” over and over and over. That will make you want to go play in traffic blindfolded.

4. Coco

This movie, I’m not going to lie to you, is one of my favorites. The story will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions… and you may learn Spanish while watching. Again, hearing the kids sing the songs over and over again can be a bit much. But the movie itself, great!

3. The Lorax

This might be a bit of recency bias because it is the most recent movie the kids have watched. And it may or may not be written for hippy tree huggers. But as Dr. Suess movies go, Its a really good movie. Hell, it has Betty White(RIP) and Travis Kelce’s girlfriend in it! There are some pretty funny moments in the movie that my boys just laugh out loud.

2. Leo

This could have easily been number 1. I don’t know how I went the past year not knowing about this movie! Its a animated Adam Sandler movie! I love (almost) everything that Adam Sandler has done. This is right up there with some of the best.

And now number 1…

1. Bluey

Bluey might be the best TV show for kids out there today! The lessons it teaches, the characters, the somewhat inappropriate humor that the kids don’t get. It’s fantastic. I have put the kids to sleep in the middle of an episode that I was watching with them…and go back to finish the episode after I put them to bed.

I’m a 37 year-old dad, proud husband, and on-time tick bite survivor. I’ve got two high-energy boys who think sleep is optional and gravity is just a suggestion. If there’s one thing fatherhood has taught me, it’s this: Emprace the chaos, buckle up, and enjoy the wild, snack-crumb-covered ride.
