I crossed that finish line knowing—truly knowing—that I can do hard things.
But what does it actually take to do the hard things?
You have to Embrace the Suck.
Waking up at 4:30 a.m. every morning sucks. Dieting sucks. Making sacrifices sucks.
But when I finally embraced the suck of the program, the results started to show. My confidence grew. My momentum shifted. And I started moving in the right direction.
Here’s what I realized going through the 75 Hard program:
We need to Embrace the Suck every single day.
Every day of the week, something is going to show up that absolutely sucks—and we have to face it anyway.
Examples?
- Going to work
- Going to school
- Dealing with negative people
- Putting your kids to bed
- Tough conversations
- (Did I mention putting your kids to bed?)
When I was in sales, I hated prospecting. Prospecting sucks. Hours of calling people just to leave voicemails, get rejected, or get hung up on. But once I embraced the suck of prospecting, things started to move. That year, I closed the most new business in the company. Prospecting didn’t magically stop sucking—it still does—but when you embrace the suck, things start working in your favor.
I don’t deal with negative people every day, but when I do, it’s rough. Negative people suck. I try to stay positive, but negativity can drain a room fast. When you embrace the suck of dealing with negative people, you stay in control of your energy. You can even turn your positivity up a notch and silence the negativity altogether.
And then there’s bedtime at our house.
Leanna and I have two amazing boys. We love them to the ends of the earth. But the bedtime season we’re in right now? It. Sucks. Owen wants me to lay with him forever. Hudson only wants to fall asleep on Momma in our bed. Some nights, we dread the routine. But we embrace the suck and do it anyway. And there is a finish line—bittersweet as it may be.
Owen is six. Soon he won’t want anything to do with dad.
Hudson is three. Soon he won’t want to cuddle with Momma anymore.
So we embrace the suck now, because these moments are fleeting.
Completing 75 Hard made me more willing to embrace the suck in every area of my life.
Because when you Embrace the Suck…
You Can Achieve Your Goals.
