When You Do the Hard Things by Embracing the Suck…
You can achieve your goals.
Goals are a funny thing. For as long as I can remember, I’ve set New Year’s resolutions. And for just as long, by February those resolutions had magically disappeared—wiped from my memory like they never existed.
“I’m going to start working out.”
One month later: couch potato.
“I’m going to stop eating so much fast food.”
One month later: Chick-fil-A is just too convenient.
This past January, I wrote a blog about the goals I set for 2025. I’d be lying if I said I’ve hit all of them. But I’ve definitely hit more than I expected.
I’ve already talked about how I accomplished my goals during 75 Hard, so I won’t rehash that here.
Now it’s on to what’s next…
So what is next?
The last book I read during 75 Hard was Hero on a Mission by Don Miller.
I won’t spoil it, but the idea is powerful: in every story—books, movies, life—there are four characters. The hero, the villain, the victim, and the guide. And the question becomes: how can you create your own story, position yourself as the Hero, and live a life with meaning?
That’s what’s next for me.
Creating my own story.
Creating a life with meaning.
I’ve laid out a 10-year, 5-year, and 1-year plan. I’ve set goals and milestones to keep myself aligned with those plans.
Will it be easy? — Nope. I made sure the goals were challenging.
Will I have to do hard things to achieve them? — Absolutely.
Will I have to embrace the suck? — 100%.
Beyond getting in shape and becoming a healthier version of myself, 75 Hard showed me something bigger: I can do hard things. I can embrace the suck.I can achieve my goals. And I’m genuinely looking forward to the challenges that are coming my way.
